The Dweezil VW Beetle restoration continues! The front suspension and brakes get sandblasted and painted during this step in the rebuild. There’s a few challenges while we use POR15 paint and then add a dust coat of Rustoleum primer. It looks like we might have a storm brewing in the Atlantic, so exciting times are on the way!

Dweezil gets a full day of attention in this VW Beetle Restoration as we gather parts, disassemble the front beam suspension, press out the ball joints, and prepare for a day of sandblasting. A small mystery with the steering column is solved and we make a little time for some smoked salmon. Who says shop food can’t be good? Let us know what you think in the comments!

The restoration continues with removal of the front beam and a deep dive into the steering box. Aircooled VW engines get a lot of attention, but even the less obvious parts of a vintage Beetle have some cool designs too. We start by taking a look back at how this aircooled VW engine was built out of scrap parts and the process used to learn engine machining procedures and to experiment with engine modifications.
